Garden of Ideas was invited to meet Chinese investors at the Sino-European Entrepreneurs Summit 2016 held at The Grosvenor House. The summit was chaired by Wu Jianmin ( a member of the Foreign Policy Advisory Group of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, and former Ambassador to France), Gordon Brown (former Prime Minister of the UK), Jean-Pierre Raffarin (former Prime Minister of France and President of the foreign affairs and defence committee at the French Senate) and Long Yongtu (former Vice Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of China, in charge for the negotiations for China's integration into the World Trade Organization). The Sino-European Entrepreneurs Summit (SEES) was created with the objective of promoting international business cooperation between China and the EU.
The annual summit was held in London because it would facilitate the delivery of the 13th Five Year Programme and the implementation of the ‘one belt one road’ (OBOR) strategy to give new momentum to the internationalization of Chinese business. SEES 2016 took the 13th Five Year Programme as its starting point and addressed issues that include the search for new growth in finance/financial services, real Industry, and China’s internationalization strategy and innovation among other areas.
Speakers at the summit included, Gordon Brown, Lord James Sassoon (Executive Director of Jardine Matheson Holdings and Chairman of the China-Britain Business Council and President of the EU-China Business Association) and Rt Hon John Whittingdale OBE (Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport).
Garden of Ideas' Director got the opportunity to meet and hear speeches from influential people from the UK's and China's government and business sectors.
